Description
The epic heroine Draupadi of the Mahabharata proves that women can be destroyed but not defeated, just as men can be destroyed but not defeated. It is this indomitable spirit of Draupadi that these poems address. Indian women seem to have internalized the invincible spirit of Draupadi. Also, it needs to be noticed that many of the poems on 21st-century Indian women as victims, such as Suzette or Priyanka, included in Indomitable Draupadi, are not aided by any divine intervention. Trapped between resistance and resilience, the Draupadis of the world, the invincible uncrowned queens of families, both rich and poor, carry on the relentless battle against those forces that demand docility, vulnerability and dumbness as the stellar merits in women.
